Action SA has called the decision to declassify the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, IPID, report into the robbery at President Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in Limpopo- a victory for South Africans.
This follows the party’s year-long court battle, seeking transparency on the matter. Previously designated as Top Secret, the report’s change in status was revealed in a recent parliamentary response by Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia.
ActionSA’s National Chairperson, Michael Beaumont, says that they see it as a victory, as it was a long fight.
“We see it as a victory for the South African people, more than one for us. It’s been a long fight, but it’s been an important fight- in an environment where many political parties that once spoke about this issue are now co-opted into this GNU, and no longer do. And where every government institution has fallen over itself, to try and defend the president, to explain how he could have 580 000 US dollars in his furniture.”
