The Activists and Citizens Forum is demanding an investigation into possible corruption by a top official at the Kgosi Mampuru Prison, following allegations of a close relationship with alleged cartel member, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.
This is after Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi told a parliamentary committee that Matlala received preferential treatment, including access to a cell phone while at the facility.
Matlala was transferred to a maximum-security prison in Kokstad in KwaZulu-Natal in December.
“We are not surprised by what General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi told the parliamentary ad hoc committee: that a senior head of C-Max in Pretoria is giving Cat Matlala preferential treatment over all other awaiting-trial inmates. This is completely wrong and unacceptable, which is why we are calling on the minister to immediately suspend this head of Kgosi Mampuru,” says Activists and Citizens Forum spokesperson Dennis Bloem.
