ANC accuses DA of neglecting Western Cape healthcare

The African National Congress (ANC) has accused the Democratic Alliance (DA) – led government of neglecting communities in the Western Cape when it comes to healthcare.
Different political parties have taken the podium at the State of the Province (SOPA) debate in George.
Parties are debating Premier Alan Winde’s address which took place Wednesday night.
ANC MP Nobulumko Nkondlo claimed that oversight visits to health facilities were being blocked by the DA.
She accused the party of exposing corruption everywhere except in the Western Cape.
“Clinics are overflowing with patients sleeping on floors as there is not enough beds and staff is over stretched and the Department of Health is sitting with about 2 772 staff vacancies. And the entire provincial government underspent to the tune of almost R200 million on compensation of employees due to recurring delays in filling of vacancies. When DA took over healthcare staff in the province, there were around 24 951 (people) by 2023; that number has reduced to 21 683.”
