The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has welcomed the State of the Province Address (SOPA) by Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba.
ANC Provincial Secretary Reuben Madadzhe says the provincial government has demonstrated accountability, with several projects that were promised in last year’s address now nearing completion.
Madadzhe was reacting to the address by Ramathuba at the Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane.
His remarks come after opposition parties criticised the speech, describing it as a repetition of old unfulfilled promises.
Madadzhe says opposition parties are disappointed because they expected the ANC-led government to fail.
“This means they are living in a dream world, a dream world of disappointed people. The people of Limpopo will know it very well that the premier came here and promised us massive infrastructure for the province in 2025, and she was giving an account of what the provincial government has done, and we are very pleased to note that the provincial government has delivered in its mandate when it comes to infrastructure projects.”

Ramathuba says the province has shown growth in economic activities and is contributing to the country’s GDP.
She says the province has contributed 7.8% to the country’s GDP in the figures released in October.
“The GDP data released in October 2025 shows that Limpopo registered the highest growth rate, 0.9%. Limpopo rose as the largest contributor to South Africa’s GDP, accounting for 7.8 percent in 2024. Residents continue to ask, “Does GDP mean jobs? Economic growth doesn’t automatically translate to jobs, but it creates conditions for jobs.”
Meanwhile, the DA, EFF and FF-Plus say the speech repeated old promises without offering clear solutions to ongoing challenges in the province.
The parties raised concerns about persistent water shortages, deteriorating infrastructure and the lack of clear plans to provide permanent relief to victims of recent floods.
Representatives from the parties shared their reactions to the address:
“On the issue of disaster she never covered everything; they are there to make money out of the taxpayers’ expenses; therefore, we are very much worried. We are not going to tolerate such behaviour.”
“The speech was very long; one of our biggest concerns in the province is water, and all we saw there was the blame game.”
