ARCHBISHOP KAZIMBA CALLS FOR PEACE, RECONCILIATION AHEAD OF 2026 GENERAL ELECTION

Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has called on Christians across the country to remain steadfast as ambassadors of peace, justice, and reconciliation as Uganda approaches the 2026 general elections.Archbishop Kaziimba delivered the message on Saturday during the 26th Graduation Ceremony of Uganda Christian University’s Bishop Barham University College (BBUC), held at St. Peter’s Cathedral grounds on Rugarama Hill in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality.A total of 353 students graduated—228 males and 125 females. The awards conferred included 28 master’s degrees, 265 bachelor’s degrees, and 60 diplomas.In his address, the Archbishop reminded the university community that their responsibility extends beyond academic excellence. He emphasized what he called their “second duty” as ambassadors of peace, justice, and reconciliation, noting that through prayer, resilience, and faith, they can remain strong even when faced with opposition.Archbishop Kaziimba encouraged the public to use language that promotes unity rather than division, saying that integrity and compassion reflect the holistic education offered by UCU. He appealed to Christians and the wider public to contribute to safeguarding national harmony as the 2026 elections draw closer.“Our nation needs people who choose words that heal, not words that divide,” he said.He further stressed that as the election season approaches, Uganda needs citizens who work to unite rather than separate, adding that the Church carries a vital responsibility to offer moral and spiritual guidance during politically tense periods.Speaking as Chief Guest, Eng. Reuben Tumwebaze, the Managing Director of Uganda Clays Ltd, reminded graduates that academic grades alone are no longer the primary determinant of employment.He stressed that employers are increasingly prioritizing qualities such as discipline, innovation, and strong work ethics.He encouraged the graduates to remain adaptable, think beyond traditional career paths, and embrace continuous learning to succeed in an ever-evolving job market.
