Balimwezo Declared New Kampala Lord Mayor


Nakawa– After close to two days after Local Government elections country wide, Ms. Jennifer Kyobutungi, the Returning Officer for Kampala, has declared National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Engineer Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga as the elected Lord Mayor for Kampala for the term running from 2026-2031.

“Accordingly as the Returning officer for Kampala Electoral District and in accordance with Local Government Act Cap 138, I declare Balimwezo Nsubuga who obtainned the largest number of votes to be elected candidate for Kampala Electoral District.” Announced Kyobutungi
Other candidates in the race included Kizito Moses (NRM) who obtainned 43615 votes, Erias Lukwago the Incumbent (PFF) with 41915 votes, Mao Beatrice (DP) 2162 votes, Naggayi Nabilah Sempala 1854, Namurebine Jothan (independent) with 119 votes.
The stuff competition was between Balimwezo, Lukwago and NRM’s Nsubuga.
Lukwago who has ruled the city for three terms (15 years) is Kampala’s first Lord Mayor since the amended KCCA Act which changed the name of the city managing body from Kampala City Council (KCCA) to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
