Botswana’s government asks citizens to give medalist money
21 year old Letsile Tebogo is the first African man to win men’s 200 meters race. He won the race in a record time of 19 minutes and 46 seconds.
Tebogo brought home the first gold medal in southern Africa after beating Kenny Rednarek and Noah Lyles.
He was welcomed home by thousands of people, and he dedicated his medal to his late mother,Seratiwa who died in May this year.
Unlike other governments, the government of Botswana asked its citizens to give money to Tebogo,who won a gold medal for his country.
