Jinja Senior Secondary School started the defence of the 2024 Boys’ Schools Cricket Week title with two comfortable victories following their wins against St. Joseph College, Laibi and Teso College, Aloet on Sunday.

The defending champions beat the former by 9 wickets before thumping the latter by 106 runs. Richard Sohera turned up for his side scoring 47 runs and picking three wickets in the first game and 27 not out against TCA.

Pius Oloka and team captain Paul Mulongo were also valuable for their side especially in the second game. The pair scored quick respective scores of 40 and 48 off 15 and 24 respectively as they took charge of Group A on the opening day.

Jinja SS’ biggest rival Busoga College, Mwiri played just one game on Sunday, and won it without breaking a sweat. They beat Soroti Secondary School by 5 wickets with the trio of Gerald Olipa, Eric Mukisa and Samuel Kalyowa each picking three wickets.

In Group B where everyone played just one game, Nyakasura School, Gulu High School and Delhi Public School International each won their games. Nyakasura- last year’s losing finalists- beat tournament debutants Shree Sahajanand School Uganda by 7 wickets.

Horizon International School- the other tournament debutants- were welcomed to the competition by an 8-wicket loss to Aga Khan High School in Group C.

Owing to their two wins, Aga Khan lead that group, and their all rounder Ali Abraiz delivered the best performance of the day.

Against St.James Secondary School in their opening game, Abraiz knocked a half century of 82 off 33, scoring 10 fours and five maximums. Aside him, no player hit a half century on the opening day.

The tournament is ongoing in Jinja and it will last for a duration of 7 days.
