By Twesigye Aggreyin Mbarara citywww.mknewslink.com—–C-Care Hospital has officially launched a fully fledged specialised hospital in Booma cell, mbarara city, marking a major upgrade of its health services in the region.
The facility, which has been operating as a clinic in Mbarara town for several years, has now been elevated to hospital status to meet the growing demand for specialised medical care.
The development is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery in southwestern Uganda by reducing referrals to Kampala and easing pressure on public hospitals.
Speaking at the launch, Andrew Mugalu, the General Manager of C-Care IMC facilities in Uganda, said the upgrade was driven by an increase in complex medical conditions being referred from lower health units.
He noted that the hospital will host resident specialists in Mbarara to handle serious cases that previously required referral to distant facilities.
Mugalu said the hospital is equipped with modern surgical theatres, maternity services, admission wards and advanced medical equipment capable of supporting extensive surgical procedures.
He, however highlighted the high cost of operating private hospitals, citing expenses such as electricity, water, specialised equipment and skilled personnel.
During the same event, C-Care East Africa Chief Executive Officer Azhar Sundhoo revealed that in its first phase, the hospital will operate with a bed capacity of 25.
He said plans are underway to expand capacity to 55 beds by July this year, including the introduction of critical care units and an intensive care unit (ICU).
Sundhoo said the project aims to bring quality and affordable healthcare services closer to Ugandans, and he thanked the Mbarara community for their continued trust in C-Care over the years.
Speaking at the guest of honour, mbarara city health officer, Dr Keirukye Mugisha, welcomed the establishment of the hospital, saying it will complement government health facilities in improving healthcare outcomes.
He noted that the new hospital will help decongest Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and significantly reduce the number of patients referred to Kampala for specialised treatment.
