Carrims lawyer reads out threatening message at Commission

Carrim’s lawyer reads out threatening message at Commission

Advocate Kameel Prehmid, who represents North-West businessman Suleiman Carrim, has read out a message that was allegedly sent out to his client, discouraging him from testifying at the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria.
The message reads: Go to the Madlanga Commission and we will show you and your ice boy.”
Prehmid has used the message to advance his argument that Carrim should have his testimony heard in camera because of the death threats he has been receiving.
But Commissioner Sandile Khumalo put it to Prehmid that the threats against Carrim won’t go away whether he testifies in camera or not.
“They don’t go away whether or not he testifies in camera or in person. Yes. And that was my point. Because the threats are already there. Yes. Whether he testifies in camera or in person, they don’t go away. Yes. So my simple question is why then must the evidence be in camera?”
