The legal team for attempted murder accused Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala has accused the state of deliberately frustrating them for not disclosing some of the evidence they have asked for.
Matlala and four others appeared in the High Court in Johannesburg for the attempted murder of socialite Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Joe Sibanyoni and music producer Seunkie Mokubung.
Matlala’s lawyer Annelene Van Der Heever says they have requested the state to provide affidavits and expert evidence relating to downloads of Matlala’s cellphone more than a month ago.
The case has been postponed to May 7th for the outcomes of further disclosure.
Van Der Heever says the state is attempting to delay the proceedings which in turn prejudices their client.
“Everybody in court today knows what has been said about my client. Very unfairly so, I believe, and the longer this matter has been dragged out, that black cloud hangs over him. How do you protect somebody’s right when everyone out there with no evidence makes these allegations? You have a right to protect yourself, and you have a right to do so speedily,” she says.
