Commission dismisses Carrim’s application to testify in camera

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has dismissed North West businessman Suleiman Carrim’s application to testify in camera.
In his ruling, Commission Chairperson, retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, says the reasons for his judgment will be provided on Monday.
Carrim, whose urgent High Court interdict to block his appearance before the Commission, was struck off the roll on the 5th of February, is scheduled to testify on Monday and Tuesday.
Defence Counsel Advocate Kameel Premhid had argued that Carrim’s in-person appearance will prejudice his testimony, adding that his client has been receiving death threats since his brief appearance before the Commission on the 6th of February.
Premhid further submitted that testifying in an open sitting, particularly under live broadcast conditions, could expose Carrim to additional risk from those allegedly threatening him.
