Uganda’s opposition party, the Democratic Party, recently welcomed members of the Muslim community for an Iftar dinner at their party secretariat in Balintuma. The event, graced by National Resistance Movement Vice Chairman Al Hajji Moses Kigongo, emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims.

“In NRM, we are at the forefront of preaching unity. Unity is paramount since we all have the same blood,” stressed Kigongo, highlighting the need to transcend differences and avoid tribalism.

As a special guest, Kigongo underscored the significance of the Quran as a guiding principle for all Muslims. He also expressed gratitude towards DP President Nobert Mao for his friendship and support, stating, “What Mao has done today is what we fought for, and the results are being seen. Mao is a personal friend, and we have a special bond.”

Addressing the audience, Kigongo emphasized the importance of forgiveness, respect, and teamwork, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan and beyond, discouraging the use of abusive language and divisive rhetoric among politicians.

The Iftar Dinner, organized by DP on Thursday night, saw a large turnout from the Muslim community. DP’s National Vice Chairman, Honorable Fred Mukasa Mbidde, highlighted the significance of togetherness and unity as core values for the party.
