Drama As Police Crack Down on Illegal Marijuana in Farmers

In a bold move to curb illicit marijuana cultivation, police in Napak District conducted a major operation on November 11, 2024, destroying over 10 acres of the illicit crop in Alekilek village, Iriiri Subcounty.

Led by DPC SP Waigo Wilfred, the team swooped in on the marijuana gardens at 10:00 AM, later joined by reinforcements from the Mt. Moroto Regional team.

As the police arrived, growers hastily abandoned the area, tacitly admitting to their illegal activities.

The destruction of the marijuana plants is a significant blow to the illicit trade, which has been supplying surrounding communities.

This operation highlights the police’s commitment to eradicating illegal marijuana cultivation and distribution in the region. By taking down large-scale growers, authorities aim to disrupt the supply chain and prevent the harmful effects of marijuana on local youth and communities.

Similar operations have been conducted in other districts, including Kwania and Busia, where police have destroyed additional acres of marijuana gardens.

According to police spokesperson, These efforts demonstrate a coordinated effort to tackle the illicit marijuana trade in Uganda.

“The police’s actions serve as a warning to those involved in illegal marijuana cultivation and distribution: law enforcement is vigilant and will take action to protect communities from the harmful effects of this illicit trade.” Part of the police statement reads.
