After staging a national delegates conference at Katonga two weeks ago, Forum for Democratic Change Katonga faction resolved to dissolve their mother party FDC and start a new party. These contend that in 6 months period, FDC will be dissolved and a new party will be birthed.
Early this week in a document that made rounds on Social media, 12 signatories led by former Leader of Opposition Wafula Ogutu tendered in Katonga’s request to register People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) with WHITE and ROYAL BLUE as the suggested party colors, a Phone as the Party Symbol and FREEDOM FOR ALL, ALL FOR FREEDOM as the party slogan.

The move by Katonga faction has made FDC Najjanankumbi of Patrick Oboi Amuriat restless and worried since it’s going to cause a mass exodus of many party supporters who believe in four time presidential candidate Dr Kiiza Besigye.TrendingBreaking News: Court Throws Another MP Out Of Parliament
In the news this morning, the registration and name reservation request by Katonga has been queried as another party in the process of registration has petitioned the Electoral Commission sighting confusion in the party name.
In a letter seen by this publication and addressed to the Electoral Commission’s Secretary, People Power Front (PFF) which commenced the registration process with the EC is not comfortable with Katonga’s Name suggestion of People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) which they say is almost similar to their People Power Front (PPF) saying the electorates will be confused ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“However, it is worth noting in the recent development that FDC’s Katonga based faction has tendered in its request with the Electoral Commission to reserve People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), which is similar to the already existing People Power Front (PPF). The key words being People and Front will not only confuse party members and electorates as already is, but also put to disrepute the independent Electoral Commission as the regulator of political parties should both entities be accorded a green light”- the petition reads in part.
Meanwhile, despite Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi’s dismissing statements claiming Besigye and the entire Katonga group are just comedians and hold no locus to dissolve the FDC, Amb Wasswa Birigwa whom court pronounced recently as the rightful party Chairperson has already started the process of dissolving FDC and has already issued the NOTICE TO DISOLUTION even in the news papers.
Electoral Commission is yet to break it’s silence on the dissolution and the petition by People Power Front to put breaks on the registration of Katonga’s People’s Front for Freedom (PFF).
