He explained that no one wants to spend the drive home dreading the person waiting for them, stressing that enjoying each other’s company and being able to communicate openly are essential for a lasting marriage.
Mugisha also acknowledged that there is no universal script for marriage, saying every couple has to find their own way through the different seasons of life.
“There’s no script to marriage,” he said, noting that neither he nor his wife was given a manual, yet they have continued to navigate life’s challenges together.
Reflecting on the early years of their union, the seasoned broadcaster admitted that the first five years were the most demanding.
“The first five years are the most difficult years in marriage,” he confessed, explaining that the period tests both individuals and the relationship itself.
He revealed that he and Irene welcomed children within the first three years of marriage, a time that also coincided with the beginning of their professional careers.
“In our case the children came very quickly, and it was the beginning of our careers,” he shared.
With limited income at the time, the couple still wanted to provide their children with quality education, basic needs, and a comfortable life.
“At some point, I said my God I think we’ve taken on too much, but we were very lucky,” Mugisha recalled, expressing gratitude for how they overcame those challenges together.
