Five Workers’ MPs Declared After Closely Contested 2026 Elections

 Five candidates have been officially declared Members of Parliament representing workers in Uganda’s 12th Parliament following elections held at Kibuli Secondary School in Kampala.

The announcement was made on Tuesday evening by the Returning Officer, Ibrahim Kakembo, who also issued declaration forms to the successful candidates.

Annet Birungi emerged as the overall winner after securing 358 votes, narrowly edging out Gilbert Agaba, who garnered 351 votes.

The other elected representatives are incumbent Arinaitwe Rwakajara with 289 votes, incumbent Margaret Namubiru Rwabushaija who received 207 votes, and Fiona Nakku, who was elected Female Representative of Workers after defeating the incumbent, Agnes Kunihira Abwooli.

Nakku’s victory marked one of the tightest contests in the workers’ representatives’ elections. She narrowly defeated the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer and incumbent, Agnes Kunihira, polling 290 votes against Kunihira’s 287.
