The Free State Education department says it is investigating a case of sexual assault that allegedly took place at the Bainsvlei farm school, in Bloemfontein, 11 years ago.
This comes after a Bloemfontein family raised concern about the conclusion of the case that had been reported when their boy was eight years old.
Police say the case was investigated and two minors faced prosecution. One was found not guilty while the other received a four year suspended sentence.
The Education Department says the information about the incident only came to its attention when SABC News enquired about claims of inaction on the matter.
Departmental spokesperson, Howard Ndaba says they immediately assembled a team from the district to conduct investigation and are also in contact with the Department of Social Development to provide psycho-social support for the boy who is now 18 years old and his family.
