Government Declares Election Day a Public Holiday


As Uganda is left with a few days to the Election Day of the President, the voting and declaration day have been declared Public Holidays.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni 
“(Under Section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act, Cap. 174) IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred upon the President by Section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act, I declare 15th and 16th January, 2026 to be observed as public holidays throughout Uganda for the purpose of enabling citizens to participate in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.” Read the declaration
This declaration was signed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on 8th January 2026.
This has come at a time when all the right Presidential candidates including the Incumbent are in the final stages of their country wide campaigns.
