Halima Nakaayi Lowers Women’s 800m National Record

Halima Nakaayi set a new national record in the Women’s 800 meters at the World Athletics Continental Tour event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The 2019 World Champion from Uganda clocked an impressive 1:57.56, narrowly surpassing her previous record of 1:57.62 set at the Anniversary Games in London on July 23, 2023.

In a race that came down to the wire, Nakaayi edged out Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma by a mere six-thousandths of a second, securing her victory. Sage Hurta-Klecker of the United States finished in third place, rounding out a highly competitive field.

This triumph marks a significant milestone for Nakaayi as she prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
