Hamz Stadium Nakivubo Unveiled in Spectacular Fashion – The East Observer

Kampala, Uganda: Following extensive renovations, the historic Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, now named Hamz Stadium, reopened its doors to the public in a remarkable celebration that captivated city residents.

The grand unveiling of Hamz Stadium Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds attracted prominent figures from the government, business community, and sports enthusiasts, featuring a lineup of sporting events and dynamic performances by Uganda’s top entertainers.

Distinguished guests included former Vice President of Uganda, Hon Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, FUFA President Moses Magogo, Minister for Kampala, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, and officials from the NRM Secretariat, among others.

The event saw a convergence of city businessmen, including Kwagalana Group Chairman, Mr. Godfrey Kirumira, Mandela Group Chairman, Mr. Umar Mandela, and John Bosco Muwonge, who joined in the festivities.

Activities commenced with a thrilling basketball match between KIU Titans and JT Jaguars, followed by two football test matches, where URA triumphed over Kitara and Villa secured victory against Express.

Winning teams received substantial cash prizes, with additional rewards for the standout performers. The evening culminated in a kickboxing match, showcasing the prowess of Umar Semata against Moses Golola.

The entertainment lineup featured performances by renowned artists, including Bebe Cool, Eddy Kenzo, Sheebah Karungi, Spice Diana, Gravity Omutujju, David Lutalo, Fik Fameica, Rema Namakula, and Alien Skin.

Formerly known as Nakivubo Stadium, Hamz Stadium, established in 1926, underwent a remarkable transformation, boasting modern amenities such as an all-seater design, artificial playing surface, netball and basketball courts, a boxing arena, gym facilities, and VIP executive boxes.

The grand reopening marks a new era for Ugandan sports culture and entertainment, reflecting the ongoing commitment to enhancing facilities and promoting athletics nationwide.
