Hundreds Participate in Bunyoro Empango Run
Hundreds of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom subjects have participated in this year’s Empango run.
The run that was flagged off on Saturday by Andrew Byakutaga, the Kingdom’s Prime Minister saw hundreds of the Kingdom subjects from various districts within the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom participate.
The marathon is one of the pre-activities to commemorate Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru’s 30th coronation anniversary slated for June 11th, at the Kingdom palace.
According to Byakutaga, the proceeds from the Marathon will be used to purchase a delivery bed for Kibaale Health Center IV in Kibaale district.
Byakutaga applauded the Kingdom subjects for embracing the run stating that it helps to improve on their physical fitness and also freely interact for peace and unity.
Dr. Joseph Ruyonga, the Hoima West Division Member of Parliament applauded the Kingdom subjects for showing love to their King by turning up in big numbers.
Patrick Okwairwoth from Kikuube says he participated in the run to show love and respect for the king of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.
Pius Wakabi, the Bugahya county member of parliament challenged the Kingdom subjects to always conduct physical exercise routinely for their better health.
Christine Kusemererwa, a resident of Hoima City called on the Kingdom subjects to always embrace such important events organized by the Kingdom to show their identity to the world.
The coronation anniversary also known as Empango is commemorated on June 11th annually to celebrate the day Iguru ascended to the throne.
It attracts thousands of Kingdom subjects who flock to the palace[Karuzika] to attend the function.
During the celebrations, the King’s subjects and guests are treated to different cultural performances including dances, drama, and poetry recitals.
Iguru the 27th King under the Ababiito clan first performed the ritual on June 11, 1994, following the restoration of cultural institutions by the NRM government.
