The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, has appointed ACP Ezekiel Emitu as the new Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commander, replacing CP Richard Ecega.
ACP Emitu’s appointment follows public outcry over the rising wave of crime in the city centre, including incidents of thugs snatching valuables from motorists at traffic lights, attacking pedestrians and robbing them of their mobile phones, as well as machete-wielding gangs targeting homes and injuring residents.
Before his appointment, ACP Emitu was serving at Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi. He previously worked as Deputy KMP Commander under the now Director of Operations, AIGP Frank Mwesigwa. CP Richard Ecega has been transferred to the Human Resource Directorate at Police Headquarters pending deployment.
In the same reshuffle, CP Lawoti Patrick has been moved from the Counter Terrorism Directorate, where he served as deputy, to head Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi, replacing ACP Emitu.
SSP Kasozi Ben, who had been heading Crime Intelligence at KMP, has also been transferred. He has been replaced by SSP Julius Isabirye, who is now the new Crime Intelligence Commander for KMP.
Additionally, CP Manzi David has been transferred from the VIP Protection Unit (VIPPU) to deputize AIGP David Wasswa in the Counter Terrorism Directorate, replacing CP Lawoti Patrick.
SP Masete Kenneth has been appointed the new Divisional Police Commander for Old Kampala, replacing SP Francis Riga, who has been posted to the Human Resource Directorate at Police Headquarters pending deployment.
