Alleged cartel member, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala has appeared alongside a group of senior police officers before the Pretoria Magistrates court in connection with the R360-million Medicare24, South African Police Service (SAPS) tender.

The number of suspects has now risen to sixteen from the twelve initially mentioned by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The suspects, who include senior police officers, are facing charges of corruption, fraud and the Contravention of the Public Finance Management Act. The alleged procurement irregularities have come under scrutiny at the Madlanga Commission.
