Investigations into Ballito shack fire under way

Investigations are under way into the cause of a shack fire in which five children died in Ballito on Durban’s north coast on Saturday.
The father of the children Sivuyile Noyila says he is devastated.
The children’s mother is in hospital in a critical condition after attempting to save them.
One child is reported to have survived. Noyila says the children were sleeping in another room when the incident happened.
“We were playing a snooker and watching soccer last night. I’m unemployed and I use this section of the shack to make money. So, People come here to play snooker and watch soccer. I closed late, around 12 midnight. My children were sleeping in the other section of this structure. After couple of minutes, I heard my eldest child screaming for help. Their mother and I tried to push the door open but were overpowered by the blaze. We couldn’t save them as the house had been engulfed by fire,” says Noyila.
