The report of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) into the break-in and theft at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm has been declassified. Â
That’s the reply given by acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia to a written parliamentary question from the ATM. Â
Cachalia says the report was declassified on February 2 this year. Â
He says that after considering the initial reasons for the “Top Secret” classification and public interest, IPID came to the decision that the classification is no longer serving the purpose. Â
He added that it should be noted that IPID was not investigating the main case of breaking-in and theft, but rather the conduct of the SAPS members who handled the case. Â
Cachalia says it should further be noted that IPID investigation reports are not for public consumption and, as such, will only be accessible through proper legal processes.Â
