It’s Just a Redundant Bill – FDC’s Amuriat Pokes Holes in Lumu Amendments
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President, Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, presented the party’s stance on the Administration of Parliament (Amendment) Bill 2024 to the Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs today.
Amuriat emphasized that the principal Act requires no amendments, deeming Hon. Lumu’s proposals redundant and ineffective.
“The current law is sufficient, and there’s no defect or mischief that warrants changes,” Amuriat stated. “We urge the committee to recommend dismissing the Bill to Parliament, avoiding further waste of time and taxpayers’ money.”
Accompanying Amuriat were, Deputy President Ms. Margaret Wokuri Madanda, Vice Chairperson Hon. Robert Centenary, Deputy Secretary for Publicity (Publications) Mr. Mulindwa Walid Lubega
The FDC’s position contrasts with the Bill’s aim to introduce changes to the Administration of Parliament, including requiring the Leader of the Opposition to consult opposition parties represented in Parliament.
This development comes amidst ongoing legislative activities in Uganda, with Parliament recently reconsidering and passing two Bills returned by the President in July 2024.
