Kitara Baptise Lugazi With Fire
Saturday, September 14•Lugazi 0-3 Kitara
Kitara FC launched their 2024/25 Uganda Premier League campaign in style with a commanding 3-0 win over debutants Lugazi FC at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe.
Jude Ssemugabi, fresh off his debut goal for the Uganda Cranes, extended his form by scoring twice, following an opening goal by Frank Zaga.
Zaga gave the visitors the lead in the 25th minute with a powerful strike into the roof of the net from a tight angle.
Lugazi’s challenges compounded when Rogers Atube, already on a yellow card, was sent off in the 38th minute for a foul on Fred Amaku at the edge of the box.
With their numerical disadvantage, Lugazi’s woes continued as Ssemugabi extended Kitara’s lead in the 41st minute.
After a steal and a pass from Denis Omedi, Ssemugabi tapped in from close range.
Ssemugabi completed his brace in the 63rd minute, meeting a long pass from Solomon Okwalinga with a controlled chest before slotting the ball past Lugazi goalkeeper Fahad Emuran.
This dominant performance marks Kitara as a formidable contender for the title this season, setting a high bar for their campaign ahead.
