The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture says more than 54 000 cattle have been vaccinated against foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the south coast region.
Twenty veterinary teams have administered doses of the vaccine at 150 dip tanks and commercial farms in the Ugu District.
The province has been identified as the epicentre of the outbreak.
MEC Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa says the mass vaccination campaign will now move to the Harry Gwala District.
The target is to vaccinate about 2.5 million cattle in both communal and commercial herds in the two districts.
