A horrific incident of mob justice has left one person dead in Gayaza LC 1, Kanyaare ward, Banda town council, Mityana district.

Mugerwa Elijah, a 45-year-old resident, was brutally killed by a group of villagers and his body dumped in a well.

According to SP Racheal Kawala, police spokesperson for the Wamala region, Elijah had been a resident on the disputed land, which has been at the center of a contentious ownership dispute involving the local villagers and a hospital.

The villagers, who claim ownership of the land, attacked and killed Elijah, allegedly over his refusal to vacate the property.

The police have since arrested Ntaganda Martin, chairperson of the village, as investigations continue.

“This act of violence is unacceptable,” said SP Kawala. “We urge the community to remain calm and cooperate with authorities to ensure justice is served.”
