Former comrades and friends of the late Congress of the People (COPE) founder, Mosiuoa “Terror” Lekota have remembered him as an outstanding organiser during a memorial service at the Regina Mundi Catholic Church in Soweto on Wednesday.
Lekota’s comrades and friends have spoken fondly of him as a brilliant organiser during the short time he spent in the United Democratic Front (UDF) before his arrest in 1985.
” We built organisations and alliances that made apartheid ungovernable from Nyanga and all parts of South Africa,” says former UDF member and Lekota’s friend Lisa Seftel.
Lekota’s protector at the Defence Ministry Steve Aphane described him as a father to him and his children. He said he worked with Lekota from 1999 to 2002.
“What a father, he took my children to school, from school to university. I raised his kids and taught them to drive.”
Former President Kgalema Motlanthe says Mosioua Lekota dedicated his life to SA:
African National Congress (ANC) First Deputy Secretary-General, Nomvula Mokonyane, says the party is grateful for Lekota’s contribution to the struggle.
”As we all will be going to Bloemfontein to lay his mortal remains to rest, let the death of comrade Terror unite us.”
Former COPE Secretary General, Lyndal Shope, said remaining incorruptible will be the greatest tribute for Lekota. She said Lekota loved the people of South Africa and wanted a bright future for his country.
‘ Lekota loved the people of South Africa and he loved the constitution. He taught us that it is better to be few and stay reliable and incorruptible, that would be the legacy for him.”
Lekota will be buried in Bloemfontein on Saturday with his funeral service expected to be held at the Grey College Sports Ground.
