Leolo residents say neglected D4230 road blocks access to healthcare

Residents of Leolo near Burgersfort, in Limpopo, say they are not enjoying human rights as their area lacks some basic services. They say the bad condition of the D4230 road that leads to their village is impacting negatively on their daily living and hinders their access to services and health care.
The road is making it hard for people to transport their goods to markets, which is hurting economic activity.
Most residents in Leolo depend on farming for a living.  Some residents have outlined the challenges they face daily.
“We have been struggling since we cast our first votes in 1994. When we first voted, ballot papers were brought here in a helicopter. So they have always known our issues here. We are struggling to a point were expecting the elderly who are sick and mothers are forced to sleep on the road, struggling to reach their homes. We do not have clinics so where will we get health care.”
Spokesperson for Limpopo Department of Public Works, Emmanuel Mongwe says a contractor has been appointed to construct a proper road soon.
“What is challenging in that particular area is that there were still other issues that our stakeholders engagement unit is dealing with them in terms of addressing them but all I can say is that the contractor is ready to start with the work there because the community there have been crying about that road. We know the condition of that road.
There were just few things that which needed to be addressed so that the contractor can start. We are hoping that in earnest the contractor should with the work.”
