Action SA in Gauteng has criticised Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s State of the Province Address (SOPA), saying he is failing the province.
Lesufi delivered his SOPA on Monday night at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.
Some areas have experienced prolonged water shutdown due to unsustainable water supply and ageing infrastructure.
The party has blamed the government of provincial unity for its reactive approach to service delivery and not accounting for the influx of people coming to the province.
ActionSA Chairperson Funzi Ngobeni says, “Our view is that if businesses are still struggling with unreliable water, you know, if there’s rising crime, if there’s broken infrastructure everywhere, then it’s fair to ask whether the fundamentals are really in place.”
Ngobeni says, “There are commitments that we have heard year after year, especially around stabilising the water supply, particularly when it comes to cutting the water losses and in the previous State of the Province Address, they indicated that they will reduce that by 15%. We didn’t hear him actually talking about that measurable impact.”
