The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has heard how businessman Morgan Maumela sent attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala entrance codes for the Zimbali Estate, to forward to then Police Minister Bheki Cele.
One of the codes was used on the day Matlala and Cele had a meeting. This is according to evidence presented by Advocate Matthew Chaskalson at the commission on Tuesday.
Chaskalson has put it to North West businessman Suliman Carrim, that the code was forwarded to Cele before his meeting with Matlala.
Chaskalson: So, at 10.41, when Mr. Matlala WhatsApped Mr. Maumela your exchanges, saying that you would call at 12, it seems that they knew that Mr. Matlala was likely to be meeting with General Cele at that time. Was any of this discussed with you?
Carrim: No, nothing. I know nothing about this. I knew nothing about this.
Earlier, Chaskalson has revealed to the Madlanga Commission that Carrim paid R2 million to Medicare-24 which he did not disclose. Medicare-24 is the company that is linked to attempted murder accused Matlala.
Chaskalson has put it to the commission that Carrim has declined to mention this important detail to them.
“So, we’re here today with this problem because the witness didn’t disclose payments aggregating to R2.12 million into Medicare 24 Tshwane District when he was specifically instructed to furnish a statement about the nature and extent of his relationship with Medicare 24 Tshwane District.”
