Madlanga Commission pokes holes at Sibiya’s contradictions

Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, has contradicted himself in an attempt to deny allegations that he has strong ties to criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.
Sibiya has denied being aware of the presence of Matlala at his son’s party in September 2024.
Advocate Adila Hassim is leading evidence at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria, where Sibiya is being cross-examined.
Advocate Hassim: “Do you know why General Shibiri [Gauteng head of organised crime Maj-Gen Richard Shibiri] would be interested in knowing that Mr. Matlala has arrived?”
General Sibiya: “No, I won’t know, number one … and number two, I wish I could be questioned on my communications with Shibiri or with Mr Matlala or with Mr Nkosi.”
Commissioner Khumalo:  “No… you said Cat must make a turn. That’s an invitation, whatever you call it.”
General Sibiya: “That I don’t deny. But I just want us to stress and keep in mind at all times is the fact that Cat is not my friend.”
