Embattled Kaze refuses to panic as Chiefs slump deepens

Magesi comes first in Chiefs’ push for a strong finish: Kaze – SABC News

With Kaizer Chiefs already surpassing last season’s points total, co-coach Cedric Kaze says their plan is to push for a top-three spot in their next game against Magesi FC.
Last season, in an abnormal programme which saw the teams playing only 28 matches following the expulsion of Royal AM, Chiefs finished ninth with just 32 points. But their 1-0 win over Durban City on Sunday took them to 33 points.
It’s a tally they could have reached a long time ago, had they made use of their games in hand. But Kaze says they won’t repeat the same mistakes.
“I do believe that, until now, we are in the right space. We just need to take it game by game. We have an important game on Saturday against Magesi before we go into the international break,” says Kaze
“All our focus needs to be on that game because we have had a couple of difficult weeks. The only thing is to try to improve every day and get the right message to the players during the week at training. We must try to be as good as we can every day going into the game against Magesi, and I believe that everything else will fall in line.”
The Chiefs’ fan base was hugely divided before this game, with some fans on social media classifying themselves on one side and taking offence at the manager’s midweek statement, which they alleged seemed to recognise only the branches. Kaze acknowledged the fans’ support.
Following the recent protest by the fans to the Chiefs Village in Naturena, the club also read out a statement midweek, which went so far as to say they were laying charges against the leader of the protest, alleging that he was inciting violence and calling for a boycott of the game. But Kaze says he understood the frustrations of these fans.
In this game, Chiefs were without the suspended duo of Aiden McCarthy and Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa, as Kaze has also revealed reasons for midfielders Ethan Chislett and Thabo Cele.
