Twenty small business owners from George, in the Western Cape, have been given smart devices to help them grow their enterprises. The devices were handed over by Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi at the Pacaltsdorp iHub Centre.Malatsi says the outreach targets underprivileged communities and gives the businesses an opportunity to receive the tools needed to thrive in the digital economy.“What the digital economy enables entrepreneurs to do is to connect with consumers and customers beyond their immediate borders. It’s a major mission of ours because the more South Africans have access to smart devices, the more they will use the internet productively and the more there will be activities in our digital economy. Tomorrow, I will join Executive Mayor of Ald. Browen Johnson in George to hand over smart devices to SMMEs, equipping local businesses with the tools they need to grow, compete and actively participate the digital economy.
