The Presiding Bishop of the Antiochian Orthodox Catholic Church, Rt. Rev. Dr. Jacinto Kibuuka, on Sunday ordained one priest and eight deacons during a solemn ceremony held at Mamre International Prayer Centre in Namugongo Janda, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

Among those ordained, Rev. Emmanuel Okiria was elevated to the priesthood, while eight deacons were also ordained. These include: Alex Senyondo, Joakim Ojok, Jerald Ongara, Emmanuel Othi, Dominic Amanzuruku, Julian Wawa, George W. Magaja, and Abel Natale Amaza—representing dioceses from Kampala, Wakiso, Nebbi, Adjumani, Gulu, Lira, Soroti, and others.

In his homily, Bishop Kibuuka delivered a critical and uncompromising message on the growing commercialization of politics in the country, warning that it poses a serious threat to national development and leadership integrity.

“Commercialization of politics leads to poor leadership and governance,” Bishop Kibuuka said. “When leaders rise to power because of money, they often lack the capacity to lead effectively. Accountability is eroded as they focus on repaying debts incurred during campaigns. This undermines democratic systems, misappropriates public resources, and opens the door to corruption and criminality.”

He urged the newly ordained clergy to be fearless in confronting societal evils, including political corruption, and to lead with truth, wisdom, and prayer.

“God has called you in the midst of a troubled world. Do not fear. He has anointed you to speak against the vices in our nations, communities, homes—even within our hearts. You are called to uproot, tear down, destroy, overthrow, build, and plant His kingdom,” he emphasized.

Drawing from the book of Hebrews, the bishop reminded the clergy that their calling is to stand in the gap between God and His people:

“You have been chosen from among the people to represent them before God—to preach, to pray, and to be a bridge between heaven and earth.”

In addition to his spiritual message, Bishop Kibuuka also encouraged both the clergy and the public to support positive government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, which aim to uplift communities and improve livelihoods.

Speaking on behalf of the newly ordained, Rev. Father Emmanuel Okiria expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Church, clergy, family, and friends for their support throughout their journey.

“This marks the beginning of a spiritual battle. We humbly ask for your continued prayers and support as we step into this sacred responsibility,” he said.

The event was attended by hundreds of faithful, dignitaries, and members of the clergy, and marked another milestone in the growth and mission of the Antiochian Orthodox Catholic Church in Uganda.
