By Moses Andamain Masindiwww.mknewslink.com—–An operation to evict street vendors from the streets of Masindi town is set to begin this-week, with a main target on vendors and Kiosks operating in the town’s Central Business District (CBD), Kijura and Kirasa mini towns.
This was revealed by Masindi municipal town clerk Daniel Kasala during an exclusive interview with this www.mknewslink.com news website Wednesday.
Kasala says the intention of evicting the vendors is to restore sanity in the town and also prepare for UCMID project where Masindi is yet to benefit.
According to a directive issued by the Masindi Municipal Council Town Clerk, Mr. Daniel Kasala, all vendors operating along streets must vacate and relocate to designated markets.
The operation will target all illegal structures (Wooden or metallic Kiosks), all those selling market items in un-gazzeted areas and all Lorries selling fresh foods like Irish Potatoes and Banana in un-gazatted areas.
All bars emitting unnecessary noise/causing pollution, and all traders selling merchandise outside their shops in pedestrian walk ways, will also not be spared, during the same enforcement.
Meanwhile, similar operations are being implemented in Hoima, Mbarara, Mbale, Soroti, Masaka, Iganga and other major cities and Municipalities, across Uganda.
Bagonza Ashraf one of the street vendors along commercial street dealing in shoe business welcomed the idea saying it is one of the ways to keep the Town clean as they have seen in other areas though it has been on short notice.
Meanwhile Aceni Brenda street vendor along Kafu Masindi high way selling Mango fruits was not different from Kabagenyi saying they have no any idea apart from relocating since it’s directive from the authorities
