The Masindi district chairman and candidate Masindi Municipality MP Cosmas Byaruhanga has expressed concern over people from the office of speaker approaching him to step down in favor of NRM flag bearer Masindi Municipality Rogers Byamukama.
Cosmas was addressing media at Kolping hotel on Thursday evening 11th Dec 2025.
“Yesterday we received his excellency the president of republic of Uganda who is also our party candidate for NRM, I also attended the function because I am the district chairman though standing as an independent in the municipality but by virtual of my position as district chairman am obliged to attend the function and welcome also other members who has come for presidential rally” Byaruhanga stated.
Byaruhanga says he was Very surprised when he was approached by the people of the speaker of parliament requesting him to step down which he objected to.
He says when he objected, speaker of parliament went Ahead and called him for brief discussion, she went Ahead and gave him a piece of paper to write withdrawing from the race and leave other candidates especially NRM candidate which he also objected saying he had been in the race thus not willing to step down since he is hopeful of winning the election.
” I was surprised when speaker went ahead to announce that he was stepping down and even miss informing the president that he had stepped down in favour of NRM candidate Rogers Byamukama “Byaruhanga explained.
He adds that he was not given any opportunity to talk on the microphone saying when he was called by the president he told him he had not stopped down and still in the race and president told him he will call him and they discuss on the matter and he is sure president can’t force any one to step down.
Byaruhanga adds that even if he is called by the president, he can’t change his mind from stepping down unless maybe if there is any special request by the president for some reasons or the other but not because he is weak, or given money or promised a job.
Byaruhanga further stressed that in his carrier, he left government job to come and join politics in order to serve his people saying he wants to inform all his coordinators and supporters about him not stepping down and still in the race as an independent candidate with symbol of chair and victory is theirs.
This action has affected my people some slept hungry without eating which is very serious issue he needs to address saying he has come to Learn that there are his opponents he is contesting with who are worried and scared about his support and think the only solution is him stepping down and they get opportunity .
Byaruhanga says everyone has his own voters and it’s very surprising he may get out of the race and his voters fail to vote any of those he is contesting against.saying it’s up to them to organise their voters than playing tricks to ensure that other people get out of the race which is dirty politics.
“To me this is total merlish of highest order to make sure that my carrier
is destroyed, to me I take this as a strength and they have given me an opportunity for more people to say okay if you want him out let us vote for him and I know the voters will do that” Byaruhanga stressed.
Masindi Municipality MP seat attracted 5 candidates who includes:
Joab Businge incumbent FDC, Cosmas Byaruhanga independent, Roggers Byamukama NRM, Vincent Tumwesige independent and Steven wandera NUP.
