Mbale Heroes Snap Up Kigezi Defender

Newly promoted Uganda Premier League (UPL) side Mbale Heroes have snapped up versatile defender Enock Katamba from Big League side Kigezi HomeBoyz.

The Kampala-based player was seen in Mbale on Friday, understandably to seal a one-year deal with the two-times Uganda Cup winners, following a series of successful talks, after which personal terms were agreed.

Katamba is a strategic addition for the Surgeons who have low-key been so busy in the ongoing transfer market – he can comfortably play in central defence, as well as operate effectively in midfield.

His physical strength plus technical ability – with and without the ball are attributes that cover up for his rather slow pace on the field of play. Katamba is a hard tackler and long passer – he does both efficiently.

The midfielder cum defender has gathered enough experience playing competitively at different levels of Ugandan football.

He featured for YMCA in the University Football League, but it is mostly in the Masaza tournament where he honed his craft, featuring for Ssingo, Buddu and Kabula respectively.

Katamba had also previously played for Buwambo United and Gorilla Highlands in the Regional League before joining Kigezi HomeBoyz in the Big League.

After just one season in the second division, top flight football came calling, and the ambitious player didn’t think twice about joining Bakhebi, ignoring interest from a number of other local clubs.

The Mbale-based side is still yet to announce any new players, but have also already signed Solomon Opolot from Kyetume, Sula Mpanga and Umar Kyebatala from Maroons, plus Tony Kiberu and Sulaiman Ssesaazi from NEC, and Delton Oyo from SC Villa.
