Kampala, Uganda — The Ministry of Education and Sports has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that all schools in Uganda will reopen on April 4, 2026 due to the forthcoming General Elections.

In an official statement issued on Monday, by Dr. Kedrace R. Turyagyenda, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports,the Ministry clarified that the information is untrue and urged the public to disregard it.
“The Ministry of Education and Sports has noted the circulation of false and misleading information on social media claiming that all schools in Uganda will reopen on 4th April 2026 due to the General Elections. This information is not true,” the statement reads.
The Ministry further emphasized that there has been no change to the approved national school calendar dated 24th November 2025. All reopening and closing dates for schools and institutions remain as officially provided in that calendar.
According to the Ministry, Term I of the 2026 Academic Year officially runs from Monday, 2nd February 2026, to Friday, 1st May 2026.
Education stakeholders, including headteachers, parents, guardians, school administrators, and students, have been directed to strictly adhere to the approved dates and to ignore announcements from unverified sources.
“The approved school calendar published on the Ministry website remains the only authoritative reference on school opening and closing dates for all schools and institutions across the country,” the statement added.
The Ministry advised the public to rely only on official communication channels, including the Ministry’s website, where the school calendar is accessible.
