Mityana Market Vendors Encouraged to Boost Household Incomes as President Museveni Offers Financial Support

Roadside market vendors in Mityana District have been urged to focus on enhancing their household incomes.

Princess Pauline Nassolo, a Senior Presidential Advisor – Elderly, emphasized the importance of economic empowerment over engaging in unproductive politics that could jeopardize their livelihoods.

Nassolo, leading a team from State House- Political Department, conveyed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s business booster package to 238 roadside vendors across four markets along Mityana Road: Kitinkokola, Zigoti, Kabengwa, and Kasalaba. Each beneficiary, primarily selling food crops and fruits, received Shs100,000.

“H.E the President sent us here to deliver this package to you as you await other government programs like Emyooga, Parish Development Model (PDM), Youth Livelihood Fund, among others,” Nassolo affirmed. She stressed that Emyooga and PDM are meant for the vendors’ benefit and encouraged them to capitalize on these opportunities.

Princess Nassolo further elucidated President Museveni’s advocacy for Ugandans to engage in money-generating activities, particularly commercial agriculture, to integrate into the monetary economy and bolster their household incomes. “Mzee doesn’t want people to work solely for sustenance; you should also work for financial stability,” Nassolo added.

Flora Kabibi, another State House official, cautioned the vendors, especially the youth, against criminal activities and urged them to uphold moral values. “Also, avoid immoral acts like homosexuality. A man is meant for a woman. Be exemplary citizens,” Kabibi emphasized.

Mayimuna Namaganda, Chairperson of Kitinkokola Market, expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the financial support and assured effective utilization of the funds for business enhancement. Similarly, vendor Koburunga Julian and Lawrence Kavuma appreciated the President’s contribution and pledged to invest the money wisely.

Kamada Galiwango, Chairperson of Zigoti Market, applauded President Museveni for the unprecedented support, highlighting the vendors’ historical exclusion from government initiatives. Galiwango encouraged the youth to leverage such opportunities in combating poverty.

Nalubega Zaitun, a tomato vendor at Kabengwa Market, echoed the sentiments of gratitude towards President Museveni for the initiative and pledged to reinvest the funds to stabilize her income.
