South African Revenue Services Commissioner (SARS) Edward Kieswetter says while he welcomes the tabling of the 2026 national budget, he believes more needs to be done to modernise SARS.
His comments come after Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana tabled the budget at Parliament in Cape Town on Wednesday afternoon.
Kieswetter says, “So we believe that the modernisation of SARS is not a project, it is a new way of being, that’s why we consistently urge the Minister of Finance to step up the investment in SARS and this is not just more people.”
He says, “It is an investment in infrastructure, it is an investment in technology. The next three years will fundamentally transform how artificial intelligence, specifically generative intelligence or a genetic intelligence, will change how people work.”
