MPs visit Kimberley after Ekapa body retrieval

Members of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Mineral and Petroleum Resources will visit Kimberley in the Northern Cape on Tuesday.
Their visit follows the recovery of the body of one of the five trapped workers at the Ekapa Minerals Mine on Monday.
The families of the four mineworkers are hoping the bodies of their loved ones will soon be retrieved.
The mineworkers were trapped after a mud rush incident at the diamond mine almost three weeks ago.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that it has opened an inquest docket.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers says, “Kimberley detectives are investigating an inquest after the body of an adult male was recovered from a mine in Kimberley on Monday, 9 March 2026 at approximately 15:00. This follows a mud rush that occurred on Tuesday 17 February 2026. The investigation continues.”
