Former Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, has criticized the Uganda Police for their handling of an incident involving National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, who was allegedly shot in the leg.Despite his strained relationship with Bobi Wine, Mpuuga took to his X platform to wish the NUP leader a speedy recovery and denounce the police’s conduct toward opposition leaders.“The Uganda Police’s brutal and high-handed attack on Bobi Wine is something every right-thinking Ugandan must condemn. We pray for Mr. Kyagulanyi’s quick recovery,” Mpuuga stated. He further demanded that the police provide an explanation for their actions: “We demand that the Police explain this high-handedness.”The incident occurred in Kira-Bulindo, Wakiso district, where Kyagulanyi was reportedly struck by an object his team claims was a teargas canister. However, the police maintain that Kyagulanyi stumbled while entering his vehicle. On Wednesday, Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke reiterated that investigations are underway to determine the exact nature of the incident.“The information we got from officers at that time was that they saw him stumbling while getting into his vehicle, but his team and a number of people said he was shot. What we are insisting on is that until we conduct a thorough investigation, we are a professional body that cannot jump to any conclusions,” Rusoke said.He emphasized that the police would not rely solely on social media footage and that any conclusions must be based on professional findings, including medical assessments.https://www.ugbulletin.co.ug/mpuuga-condemns-police-over-bobi-wine-incident/
