Muhumuza Hails Victoria Pearls Show In Build Up Match
Victoria Pearls assistant coach, Deus Muhumuza has lauded the attitude exhibited by his side during their warm up game against Vanuatu.
The two sides- both awaiting the start of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers met in a warm up game in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, and the Victoria Pearls came out comfortable winners with a 35-run victory.
Muhumuza was left inconsolable last month when a horrible batting display led to Uganda losing a bronze medal match to Nigeria at the African Games in Ghana.
The former Cricket Cranes all-rounder was left disappointed that he suggested an overhaul of the team, but after watching his side on Sunday, the 34-year-old was left impressed.
“There was some good attitude shown out there by the batters. We still felt we fell short by at least 30 runs, but that’s something we are trying to work on.
“I think the wickets are flat enough and I believe our batters can handle that. The bowlers had a feel of the wickets, everyone had a chance to bowl, and I think we did quite well.”
For the first time ever, the Victoria Pearls will be involved in a night game. The side will face UAE on Tuesday in a night game that will be played at the Tolerance Oval.
It will be the Victoria Pearls’ second warm up game, and Muhumuza says his side is looking forward to the night experience.
“Its something we are looking forward to, the experience. They tried to watch USA against Zimbabwe yesterday, but it will be best when they themselves take to the field. We believe it will give us an edge heading into the tournament, the girls will have a better experience and we believe adjustments will be done.”
The Victoria Pearls opening game at the globals will be at night and it will be against Scotland on Thursday.
