Museveni Fires Bamuturaki, Appoints Girma at Uganda Airlines

Kampala– The President of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala, to implement immediate leadership changes at Uganda Airlines in a move aimed at addressing management weaknesses within the national carrier.

In a directive dated February 13, 2026, the President ordered the appointment of Girma Wake as Consultant and Advisor to help rectify management challenges at the airline. He will also serve as Acting Chief Executive Officer until a substantive CEO is appointed by July 2026.
According to the directive, Girma Wake will work closely with the Uganda Airlines Board to strengthen leadership and management systems as part of broader reforms intended to improve the airline’s operations.
The President further instructed that the current Chief Executive Officer, Jenifer Bamuturaki, should immediately step aside and hand over office to Girma Wake and the Board. The Board has also been directed to organize and provide all emoluments due to her.
President Museveni noted that the interim leadership arrangement is part of efforts to stabilize the airline’s management and ensure effective governance while the process of recruiting a new Chief Executive Officer is undertaken.
The directive signals government efforts to strengthen the performance and administration of Uganda Airlines, which has in recent years faced scrutiny over its management and operational challenges.
