Gombe Chief Magistrates Court has charged Hon. muwanga Kivumbi, 52, the Butambala Member of Parliament and vice President National Unity Platform (NUP) for Buganda Region with Terrorism contrary to section 6(1)(a) and (3) (0) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, Cap 120.

Muwanga was not allowed to plead to this charge being capital in nature and the Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction. He was remanded to Prison until February 2nd 2026.
Prosecution contends that,MUwanga Kivumbi Muhammad and others still at large between 11th- 17th January, 2026 at various places in Uganda including Kibibi Town Council and Gombe Town Council within the Butambala District, for purposes of influencing the government or intimidating the public or a section of the public and for a political or economic aim,
indiscriminately without due regard to the safety of others or property
carried out acts prejudicial to national security or public safety, to wit: orchestrated and executed a violent attack on Kibibi Police Station and Butambala Electoral Commission Tally Centre; caused serious damage to sections of Butambala-Gomba road, motor vehicles registration numbers UBM 614Q Toyota Land cruiser, UBH 333U Ford Double Cabin, UBQ 496Z Subaru, UAV 378H Toyota Raum and UAQ 033X Toyota Spacio; which acts directly resulted in the death of seven(7) people to wit; Nagayi Sarah, Nabukenya Aisha, Nampereza Milly, Nakanjako Ruth, Nsamu Abdul Nuru, Miro Shafik and Basaliza Davis.
