National 7s Heads North for Fourth Circuit

The National Rugby Sevens Series 2024 is set to make its way to Northern Uganda as Gulu City Falcons Rugby Club proudly hosts the fourth circuit at the historic Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu, from September 7 to 8, 2024.

This follows a fortnight’s break after three exciting circuits.

The first circuit, hosted by the Entebbe Mongers and dubbed the Entebbe 7s, saw Rhinos RFC claim victory.

The second circuit, the Mbale 7s, was won by the Pirates, who continued their dominant run by winning the third circuit, the Kyadondo 7s, after a thrilling sudden death victory over the Heathens, sealing the score at 17-12.

In the women’s division, the Black Pearls triumphed in the first circuit, while the Avengers claimed back-to-back wins in both the second and third circuits.

The Avengers secured their third victory after defeating their fierce rivals, the Black Pearls, 21-12, in a tense final.

For Gulu City Falcons, this marks their third year participating in the National Rugby Sevens Series.

As part of the Northern Uganda Rugby Association’s initiative, Chairperson Amato Jamis confirmed the participation of four men’s teams: Nile Leopards, Black Arrows, Kitgum Lions, and the hosts, Gulu City Falcons.

In the women’s category, three teams—Lira Matrix, Nile Leopards, and Kitgum Queens—are set to battle it out.

“We are excited to host the fourth circuit of the National Rugby 7s series,” said Kilama Boniface, Secretary of Gulu City Rugby Club.

“The Northern teams are prepared to defend the title as hosts, and the players are in good shape for the tournament.”
